As you can see from the Chart, there are 5 fewer subjects potentially testable on the UBE than in the former NY Exam format.

In addition, you should be aware of these other changes:

• There will be no NY Multiple Choice Exam (although a separate, post bar-exam compliance test with 50 Multiple Choice Questions will be required)

• Essays will be limited to 30 minutes in length under the UBE as compared to the generally longer (45-60 minutes) format of the current NY Exam

• There will be 2 MPTs in the UBE rather than the single MPT now. In addition, the MPTs will have a 90-minute time limit instead of the flexible timing currently offered

So What Do These Changes Mean?

Based on our experience with the UBE in 14 other jurisdictions for the past several years, we think the new test will be significantly easier than the current exam. Here are a few reasons for our conclusion:

1. There are fewer subjects to study
2. The core of the exam – the 7 MBE Subjects – are also the core of the Essay section, making study more focused and compact
3. Shorter Essay Questions and set time limits will allow for better, more focused writing, particularly for students who use our exclusive and successful UBE Writing Format
4. Removing NY Multiple Choice will reduce both the number of subjects and the need to learn NY differences for Multistate Topics that currently can be tested on the NY Day of the Exam as well.

New York Bar – 考試準備 Bar Review (2014)

Bar review在過了畢業典禮之後開始有了新的含意，再也不是那個每周四去酒吧夜店飲酒作樂、令人期待的活動了(哭)

我記得報那個補習班、考bar進度安排等等話題變成大家見面的問候語大概也已經是11月的事情，今年好像提早了到10月了。各家補習班(Kaplan, Barbri, LLM bar review, Themis等等)會到學校擺攤，這時候就是補充螢光筆、原子筆、耳塞、水瓶、喉糖還有免費索取各種outline的好機會。我自己報名的是Barbri的課，是所有補習班裡面最貴的，有傳言說出題的人有故意要讓他們的預測失準，但考量到(1) 他老牌 (2) 大家幾乎都報這家 (3) 其他家好像也沒有特別吸引我的，就算一口氣要花掉好幾千塊也還是乖乖登記了。登記之後我死拖活拖不交訂金，交了訂金之後再度死拖活拖不想繳全額(完全不知道這是什麼堅持XD)，錢的事啊~總是想說有沒有機會來點折扣嘛!!

New York Bar – 初體驗：跟考試本身沒關係的周邊小事

媽的 終於考完了

一開始覺得選到曼哈頓考場是很幸運的事情，結果一進城就無法收心了!考場Jacob Javtis Convention Center 在11th Ave. & 34th St.交叉點。我住在Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. 本來想說沒住曼哈頓島上是不是給自己找麻煩，但其實考試兩天從家裡到考場只花了30分鐘，Q Line local train只停主要大站。去場勘那個星期日，因為Q Line每站都停反倒花了好多時間。

• 住宿的地方我是在airbnb上面找的，純粹就是想要住在別人家裡，感覺才不會太悲苦。剛好host的朋友一堆都是律師~~~

坦白說這地方根本Close to nowhere… 大概也是因為第一次到紐約，對這地方很陌生才會覺得從地鐵站要走很久，考試第一天選到的出口讓我少過一個紅綠燈，感覺有近一點；第二天又走了一個新的出口，一出來就看到host說的公車，感覺又少花了很多力氣。考試前兩天跟host的鄰居在院子裡聚餐，他們要我快去準備毛衣，說考場是freezing的狀態。隔天我奮不顧身地拋下未完成的複習進度，去了一趟Brooklyn downtown隨便買了厚一點的衣服。其中兩位是律師，當年也都是在那邊考試。他們說要盡早到(尤其是第一天九點就開始考試)，趕快加入入場隊伍(Security check and ID verification)，自己帶食物，還有早點上廁所。

New York Bar – Foreign Education Evaluation result

太好了~~~終於收到罐頭信了~~~

接下來就等明年拿到學位進行第二階段的認證!

Dear Candidate:

The New York State Board of Law Examiners has completed its review of your foreign credentials in connection with your request for an advance evaluation of your eligibility to sit for the New York State bar examination under Section 520.6 of the Rules of the Court of Appeals for the Admission of Attorneys and Counselors at Law [22 NYCRR 520.6].  Your foreign credentials including your foreign law school transcript has been approved by the Board.  However, the Board’s final decision with respect to your eligibility to sit for the New York bar examination is contingent on your submission of, and the Board’s subsequent approval of, the required proof of successful completion and graduation with a qualifying LL.M. degree from an ABA-approved law school in the United States.

After careful consideration of your foreign law school transcripts we have determined that your foreign law school study is either (1) not of sufficient duration or (2) not substantively equivalent to the legal education provided by an ABA-approved law school in the United States pursuant to the requirements of Rule 520.6.  However, you may cure this deficiency and qualify to sit for the New York bar examination upon presentment of proof of graduation with a qualifying LL.M. degree from an ABA-approved law school in the United States, which fully complies with all of the requirements set forth in the cure provision of Rule 520.6(b)(3).

After you have graduated from the LL.M. program at an ABA-approved law school in the United States you must request your law school to send to the Board the following:  (1) a final official transcript and (2) the completed LL.M. • 如果大學學位拿的不是LL.B., 算一下出國之前念的全部學位中，跟法律有關的學分有沒有超過80, 不然就算研究所念的是法律的所也可能不會通過審查。

• 加州bar的審查會比較寬鬆，同學中被拒的都是要考NY bar，沒把握的話最好準備一下Plan B.

但我真是個小孬孬T_T 罵完還是認分的開始研究這到底是怎麼回事… 在美國以外完成第一個法律學位的報考者，如果是第一次報名NY Bar一定要填交online Foreign Evaluation Form ● https://www.nybarapply.org/feval/。網頁拉到最下面有一個Proceed to Evaluation Request，輸入出生年月日，First name/Last name跟e-mail，資料送出後，the Board會寄一封信到提交的e-mail信箱去，告知登入密碼： 再回到NYSBOLE的網站用十位數的暫時密碼登入後再重設： (靠 截圖太累了orz) 接著按照網站的指示，填寫個人資料以及所有獲得法學學位的學校資訊。姓名我填護照上的，地址跟聯絡電話都先以台灣的為主，日後如果要更動可以再跟NYSBOLE聯繫~學校資訊就是國家/校名(都有下拉選單)，入學學期(對，就是要一筆一筆的輸入八次!)，是Full-time/Part-time, 畢業日期(把畢業證書拿出來看，尼瑪居然沒有日期T_T 只有民國101年六月)，還有是不是有課堂出席的要求(YES)、有沒有一部分遠距或非課堂課程(NO)、本國是不是英美法體系(?? 是不是啊?!)。 填完之後送出，系統會發送電子郵件告訴你BOLE ID是多少，還有該補交哪些資料(Supporting Documentation)。 送過去的文件必須是正本，副本要證明與正本相符。寄件要由學校或者認證機構封緘寄出，不過學校最好是會做這件事….當然就拿個學校信封，封緘後蓋彌封章然後自己用國際郵件寄去。所有文件都必須標明BOLE ID，左思右想決定用有保護膜的label紙直接貼在文件右上角，雖然也想過要寫在信封上，但想到肯定是有人拆完整理好才會送過去審查，那他會把信封一起送去嗎？不會吧…(我猜)，所以直接標明在紙上好像比較保險。 The documentation must consist of originals or copies certified directly by the issuing school or institution, and must be mailed to us in a sealed envelope directly from the school or government authority. Faxed copies, photocopies certified by a notary public, and photocopies certified by anyone other than an official at the issuing school or institution will not be considered. All documentation and correspondence which is submitted to the Board should contain the applicant’s unique Board Identification Number (BOLE ID) which is assigned to each applicant at the time of completing the Online Foreign Evaluation Form. 需要補充的文件主要有四個， 1. 成績單  Official Transcript(s) 所有法學學位的畢業成績單，去教務處註冊組申請就是，然後就寄件問題，說是說由學校寄出，但他們最好會這麼好心幫學生弄這個尤其是畢了業的人。 Submit a final, official transcript from every law school attended that includes the dates of attendance for each period of study, the courses taken and passed for each period of study, the grades, the degree awarded, and the date the degree was awarded. All transcripts and other law school documentation must be received by the Board directly from the issuing law school in a sealed school envelope. The records must come directly from the school; records received from the candidate will not be accepted for processing. If the school or university issues only one original to the graduate, then we will accept a certified copy of the transcript, but it must be certified by the issuing school as a true and correct copy of the original, and it must still be mailed to us in a sealed school envelope from the school. Copies certified by a notary will not be accepted in place of the school’s certification. 2. 學位證明書 Degree Certificate 說是說如果成績單上面沒有標明獲得的學位就要額外附上學位證明書，但反正一張學位證明書才10元，都已經要寄個幾百塊的國際郵件了省這個小錢何必，不如也把中文的畢業證書影本也一起寄過去好了! 都是一個包裹多寄幾張紙比較划算(最好是!XD) If the official transcript does not clearly state the degree awarded and/or the date such degree was awarded, you must also furnish the degree certificate. 3. 司法考試與考資格證明 Proof of fulfillment of the educational requirements for admission to the practice of law in the foreign country. 如果已經有執照了就去律師公會處理處理就好，偏偏我沒有…. (1) If you are admitted to practice law in a foreign country, attach a copy of your admission certificate, OR 所以我得寫一個證明書說我已經修夠學分，拿到畢業證書可以參加中華民國的司法考試…… 媽蛋，打回去學校問她說這要我自己寫，他們不提供範本，每年都有人會有這需求，然後大家都是自己寫的，寫好後他們會拿去給老師蓋章，苦思了兩小時，想到寄件問題再打了一次電話，這次是院辦的人接的，盧了半天，就把之前學長用的文件寄給我了TTTT 不過他也不處理一下那個學長的資料…(87601xxx) 媽蛋，明明就有可以用的前例，而且寫得有模有樣，幹嘛不直接做成sample給大家下載來用就好!! 這樣不是很省事又很感心嘛!! (2) If you are not admitted to practice law in a foreign country, submit proof of the educational requirements for admission to practice law in your country and proof that you have fulfilled these requirements. 4. 學校鑑定 ** Accreditation 如果再填Evaluation Request Form的時候，在下拉選單裡面有找到自己的學校，就不用理這件事了。說明信裡面也會在末尾直接告訴你會不會需要這道程序。

Accreditation Statement: Please note that the Board maintains a comprehensive list of law schools from which we have received proof of accreditation. Your law school is currently on the list of accredited schools the Board has on file.  Therefore, you will NOT need to provide proof of accreditation as part of the required supporting documentation you must submit.

Submit a written statement from the competent accrediting agency of your foreign government that the law school or schools you attended were recognized by them as qualified and approved throughout your period of study. ** Please note that the Board maintains a comprehensive list of law schools from which we have received proof of accreditation.
